ABOUT BARBAZAN
Organic flower farm in Occitania, specialised in seasonal foraged and cultivated cutflowers & herbs.

ABOUT THE FARM
Flowerfarm & historical farmland in Gascony
Named Barbazan after the small creek that runs at the bottom of a hill, the farm lays on a gentle slope and offers a diversity of ecosystems.
We maintain these various habitats surrounding the farm and have made them our focus. Polyculture has become our speciality.
The 200 year old farm is located in southwest France, in the pastoral foothills of the Pyrenees. Here we cultivate flowers, shrubs, herbs, and source wild crops such as fungi and foliage. We combine permaculture, biodynamics, agroforesty and other approches that enhance diversity and regenerative cycles. The farm we run is not only about flowers, but around a multitude of environments and creatures.

WHAT WE DO
Seasonal & organical flower farming and foraging
At Barbazan, we grow and harvest plants in accordance with seasonal conditions and regenerative practices. We cultivate organic flowers and collect wild plants, some of which we process into food, cosmetics and designs, while others we sell fresh or dried as raw materials.
We supply private individuals and businesses with flowers, aromatics and herbs. And we design floral arrangements for small and big occasions.

OUR VISION
Resiliance and healthy cycles
We envision a agriculture in which farmers ain't exploiters, but guardians of the land.
We believe in agriculture that focuses on poly- rather than monocultures and secures the ecological future through small, resilient farms.
We believe that resilience is built by strengthening diversity, living soils and self-sufficient cycles. That is why we cultivate our gardens in a variety of environments and try to promote the diversity that the land offers us. On 14 hectares, we are home to habitats ranging from wetlands to drylands to wild meadows and forests – all of which offer different treasures and curiosities for our Bouquets de Barbazan.
OUR PRINCIPLES
One for all – All for one
Our principles are based on the belief that the multitude of lifeforms is the key to a balanced environment. We trust in the self regulating power of ecosystems and in the fertility through living microorganisms. Therefore we embrace all lifeforms and feel committed to a chemical-free agriculture. Disease we fight with diversity.
We farm with the natural rhythm of seasons and let the wild merge into our cultures. Our goals are seeking resiliance and independency through short circuits and a diversified agriculture.
Barbazan's ambition is to enhance vitality and diversity in order to promote resilient ecosystems and regenerative life cycles.

OUR ENGAGEMENT
Lat. “colere” = to cultivate, to protect, to inhabit, to honor.
“Agriculture, pop culture, subculture” – all these terms derive from the latin word “cultura”, which refers to the act of environmental and intellectual “care taking”.
We see our farm as an experimental playground that unites horticulture, art, community, and research in order to gain a holistic understanding of our interactions with the environment.

We offer internships, residencies, and field research projects and promote transdisciplinarity discourse. Through education and creativity, we build shared knowledge that can have an impact on the farm and beyond.
